SEEKING 2020 NEARING RESIDENT STEWARDS
Each year the Good Life Center offers a remarkable and unique opportunity for a responsible couple to live at Forest Farm, the historic homestead of Living the Good Life authors Helen and Scott Nearing. Forest Farm is located on the spectacular Cape Rosier Peninsula overlooking Penobscot Bay and the Camden Hills on the Maine coast. Public beaches, biking, kayaking, sailing and hiking are within easy reach, as are the galleries, restaurants and shops in nearby Blue Hill and Deer Isle. Acadia National Park is an hour away.
Responsibilities include caring for the Nearings’ organic vegetable garden, light maintenance, welcoming visitors, providing tours and introducing educational programs.
Residents occupy a simply furnished, wood-heated apartment and receive a modest stipend, garden vegetables, special access to the Nearing library, and the opportunity to meet like-minded people from around the world. You will receive support and supervision from the site manager and the head gardener.
The season runs from Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples Day. Residents commit to 25 hours of work per week per person with two days off per week. Applicants must be nonsmokers, have hands-on gardening experience and commit to the full season. Meals must be vegetarian while on the grounds. Knowledge of the Nearings’ writings and philosophy is a plus.
Please send a resume and letter of interest by January 15, 2019 to: Good Life Center, c/o Warren Berkowitz, 97 Water Street, Blue Hill, Maine 04614.
